Anti-puncture fluids and sealants for bicycles Zefal SKS Sigma Sport

Filter

Latex and tubeless, a combination in common use among cyclists always looking for new solutions to maximise performance and safety on the bike to have the right protection with an anti-puncture liquid.

What does the anti-puncture liquid sometimes also named tubeless latex consist of?

There are numerous brands of sealant anti-puncture liquid on the market, most of it is composed of a fairly fluid milky white liquid.
Initially, a denser liquid was used in some cases tiny grains of finely ground rubber were added, this was at the beginning of experiments with tubeless tyres in bicycles, now the anti-puncture sealants are more fluid, a smaller quantity is inserted but the most important feature is their use of non-corrosive products such as ammonia.

How to use tubeless sealant correctly?

First of all, you need to check that the mechanical characteristics of the rim and tyre are compatible with the Tubeless or Tubeless-Ready feature Tubeless indicates that the rim and tyre can be used without adding an inner tube and without the use of any liquid, but in the event of a puncture the tyre would irremediably go flat.
Tubeless-Ready means that the rim and tyre can be used without an inner tube but with the addition of anti-puncture sealant. In both cases, you need to add a part of latex for tubeless, and obviously, you need a smaller amount in the native tubeless version. How much tubeless sealant do you need for a good seal? For tubeless or tubular road tyres, about 30 ml may be enough, if it's tubeless-ready about 40 ml.
